This "wooddude" or gestalt as I have been informed has sat on the mantel in my living room for probably about a year, after its leg was broke it was put up so it wouldn't be played with anymore. I was walking through the house with a piece of paper trying to find what would be the best objects to photograph. And when I saw it I saw a journey that everyone wants to go on, to shrink down and wander this world of giants. I ran outside with it and posed it around trying to put it next to things that gave the right scale, like the tree. The challenge was to pose it right so it had an emotion, wonder on the left and calm happiness on the right.
I got home from my grandfather's house and I was thinking about what object I was going to photograph. When I walked up to my porch I saw this dandelion and the contrast between the stone steps and the flower. Life growing out of lifelessness, so I knew what I was going to take a picture of it. I messed around with the levels trying to get the most color out of the flower. While trying to take this it started to rain so I had to take a break before taking the next couple of photos.
The match was a fun thing to photograph, the flames where always photogenic and interesting. I was also caught by the loneliness of it after it was burnt. I was very proud of the photo on the left, the focus and lighting give a somber tone (this is of course, subjective). The only issue I had was the rain. As previously dicussed, the rain kept putting out the match leaving only a couple seconds for taking pictures.
I wanted an apple, but we didn't have one, so I give you... Carrot. The challenge for this one was to edit it in ways that made it interesting. I first toke the picture of the carrot by itself the I began to cut it and peel it. I put it in the ground and tried to forget that real carrots have stems and leaves. Then for the last I took all the peeled and cut pieces and tried to replicate the first photo, the filter covers up the fact that its not a perfect restoration job.
This was a book that I got for my birthday a few years ago. It has all the greatest Jules Verne hits, from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea to Around the World in Eighty Days. It was hard to find the right setting for this one. I tried to put it on the couch to having it still on the book shelf and also out side on a bench. I settled on the plain background of a coffee table.
